Only 4×4 Vehicles & Those with Anti-skid Chains Allowed on Gagangeer-Sonamarg Road

By: Rayees Shah

Srinagar, Jan 28 (KF):  In view of the slippery road conditions due to snowfall and frost, the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Kangan has ordered that only vehicles fitted with anti-skid chains and 4×4 vehicles will be allowed to travel from Gagangeer to Sonamarg and vice versa.

The order, issued by SDM Javid Ah Rather, states that the restriction is being imposed to prevent accidents and traffic jams caused by slippery roads. “This order shall have immediate effect and will remain in force till further orders,” the order reads.

The affected routes include the Gagangeer-Sonamarg road, which is a popular tourist destination in Jammu and Kashmir.

The order has come as a relief to many tourists and locals who were concerned about the safety of traveling on the slippery roads.

“I am glad that the authorities have taken this step,” said a tourist from Delhi. “It is important to prioritize safety, especially during the winter months.”

The SDM has also directed the police to ensure strict compliance with the order.

“We will take strict action against violators,” said a police officer.

The order is likely to remain in place for several weeks, until the snow melts and the roads become dry.

In the meantime, tourists and locals are advised to use public transport or hire vehicles that meet the requirements of the order. (KF)
