Woman tourist killed as rolling stones hit moving bus in Ramban

Ramban, Dec 27: A moving bus was hit by rolling stones near Cafeteria Morh in Ramban on Srinagar-Jammu national highway on Friday, leaving a female tourist dead.

Police sources said a rolling stone struck the window of a moving bus (registration number JK02BL 9197), heading to Srinagar from Jammu.

As a result, they said a woman tourist seated near the window sustained critical head injuries. She was moved to District Hospital Ramban where she was declared brought dead by the doctors.

The deceased was identified as Ruby Aggarwal, wife of Akash Aggarwal, a resident of Uttar Pradesh.

SHO Police Station Ramban, Inspector Vijay Kotwal confirmed the incident and said that the other passengers are safe.

Police have advised travelers to exercise utmost caution while passing through this Mehar – Cafeteria Morh stretch as landslides and falling stones may pose risks especially during unpredictable weather.

The Mehar -Cafeteria Morh road stretch has been under construction for the last many years.

Following frequent landslides, the government has proposed a two-lane c-shape tunnel and a cut and cover tunnel.

However, due to unknown reasons, the tunnel work on this vital stretch was halted.

The work of cut and cover tunnels on the same alignment is going on but at a very slow pace.
