Srinagar, Dec 31 (KF): South Kashmir Civil Society (SKCS) demands the establishment of a Regional Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) at Ashmuji Kulgam exclusively based on Unani and Ayurveda.
Which is a significant demand from the local population of South Kashmir mainly Anantnag, Kulgam and Shopian, SKCS said, adding that the availability of quality healthcare facilities is crucial for the well-being of any community, and the absence of such an institute in the region has been a long-standing concern.
SKCS demanded that the RIMS to be established on land previously acquired by the administration approximately 80 Kanals, almost two three years back.
SKCS further emphasised that the change in land use from nothing to medical will be useful to the broader society with proper planning and consideration of the environmental impact, infrastructure requirements, and potential disruptions as usual done by industrial activities, to the fragile ecology of Kashmir valley.
The establishment of a RIMS would undoubtedly benefit the large community of South Kashmir by providing access to specialised medical care and potentially boosting the local economy through job creation and increased medical tourism.
SKCS maintained that government’s response to this demand will be crucial in determining the future of healthcare in the region, the intervention of local MLAs of Kulgam and is very much needed in this regard, to support for the assessment of the feasibility and benefits of establishing a RIMS on the prescribed land, along with transparent communication with the community, is essential.
The establishment of a RIMS at Ashmuji Kulgam has the potential to significantly improve healthcare access and quality in the sub-region. (KF)
