Petrol Pump Fined ₹50,000 by LMD Anantnag for Short Fuel Delivery

Anantnag, Feb 23: The Legal Metrology Department (LMD) imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on a petrol pump situated along the National Highway in Anantnag after it was found dispensing deficient fuel to consumers.

During a surprise inspection, officials discovered that the nozzle was short-delivering fuel by 35 ml per 5 litres, leading to the seizure of the faulty dispensing unit. The display panel of the pump was also found to be inconsistent with the actual fuel delivered.

Following the detection of the irregularity, the petrol pump management pleaded for compounding of the offence, which was processed under Section 48 of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009, according to an LMD Anantnag statement.

The department emphasized that this action is part of an ongoing crackdown on petrol pumps violating consumer rights.

Consumers were urged to remain vigilant and verify fuel quantity using the standard 5-litre conical measure available at every petrol pump. The LMD also reminded petrol pump managements of their duty to facilitate such checks whenever requested by a customer.
