PDD Plans to Avoid Power Curtailment at Sehri & Iftar During Ramadhan

Srinagar, March 01: The Power Development Department (PDD) has decided to avoid the power curtailment at Sehri and Iftar times in the feasible areas in the holy month of Ramadhan.

The department in this regard is likely to hold the important meeting on Saturday to discuss the mechanism and strategy to implement the new schedule for the month of Ramadhan.

A top official of PDD informed the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that we have reduced the power curtailment in almost all areas, but in the month of Ramadhan, we will try to avoid the curtailment at Sehri and Iftar times.”

The official further said that in case there will be overload in any feeder, then the department will have to curtail further power.Regarding the local power generation from the plants in the Kashmir region, the official said that production has slightly improved after fresh rain and snowfall.

“In the previous weeks, the average power generation was nearly 40-45 Megawatts from the local power plants of the Kashmir region. However, as of now, we are generating nearly 70 MWs of power,” the official said.

The official further said that power generation capacity is likely to improve further in the coming weeks.

Notably, the hydel power generation from the power plants across Jammu and Kashmir has further reduced by five per cent—owing to the low water level in the past month,

Overall, the hydro power generation from the local plants in Jammu and Kashmir had reduced by 84.17 per cent.

In the month of January, the Power Development Department (PDD) was generating nearly 250 Megawatts of power from the local hydel projects, which amounts to 20 per cent of the total generation capacity.

However, in the ongoing month, the power generation has further reduced by five per cent. — (KNO)
