Jammu, Jan 27, 2024 (KF): A B.Pharma student from Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir, landed in hot water after allegedly making inflammatory remarks about the Babri Masjid and Ram Temple in Rajasthan. Sohrab Qayoom, enrolled at Mewar University under a special scholarship scheme, faces potential charges under various sections of the IPC.
While the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association condemned his comments, expressing concern about his future, they also urged authorities to consider leniency and rehabilitation options. The student’s family is appealing for dropping the charges to avoid jeopardizing his academic and professional prospects.
The incident highlights the sensitivity surrounding the Babri Masjid-Ram Temple issue and the potential consequences of inflammatory statements, even for students. With investigations ongoing, Sohrab’s fate remains uncertain, sparking debate about freedom of expression, responsible conduct, and the importance of second chances. (KF)
