GMC Anantnag starts Pigtail Drianage procedures

Department of Radiology, Government Medical College Anantnag today started Pigtail drainage procedures in coordination with Dept of General Surgery.

A Patient admitted in General Surgery department was having large liver Abscess for which laprotomy (Open Surgery) was required but the procedure was done by Pigtail drainage method by Team of Doctors including Dr Saiqa Shafi (AP Radiology), Dr Owais Hamied Dar (Consultant Radiologist), Dr Javaid H Dugga and Dr Mubashir from Department of Radiology and Dr Khursheed Ahmad, JR and Mr Hadi from Dept of General Surgery.

The procedure was done successfully in 15 minutes under USG guidence and after following all Aseptic precautions and Pus started draining spontaneously from liver Abscess after putting pigtail drain inside the abscess, thereby avoiding open surgical procedure.

Principal GMC Anantnag, Dr Syed Tariq Qureshi and Med Superintendent, Dr Mohammad Iqbal Sofi congratulated the team for this successful procedure.

Its pertinent to mention here that USG guided Abscess drainage procedures and USG guided FNACs are being done routinely by the department for last many years and now pigtail drainage procedures have also been started which will pave way for more such procedures in future. (KF)
