J&K Police Chief Sounds Alarm on Road Safety Crisis, Calls for Action

Jammu, Jan 28:  The Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Dilbag Singh Swain, painted a grim picture of the state’s escalating road accident problem today, urging a collective response to curb the “painful” loss of lives and injuries.

In a recent address, DGP Swain expressed deep concern over the “alarming increase” in road crashes, highlighting the significant toll they take on families and communities. “Not only do we lose precious lives, but countless individuals suffer life-altering injuries,” he lamented, emphasizing the urgency of addressing this public safety crisis.

Acknowledging the police’s role in promoting road safety, DGP Swain outlined their commitment to ensuring the well-being of both drivers and pedestrians. This involves not just enforcing traffic laws but also fostering an environment that prioritizes safe travel habits, he noted.

However, the police chief underscored the critical need for collaboration among various stakeholders. He called upon government agencies, educational institutions, civil society organizations, and the public at large to join forces in raising awareness, promoting responsible driving practices, and improving road infrastructure.

“With concerted efforts from all corners, we can significantly reduce the number of road accidents and save countless lives,” DGP Swain declared, stressing the collective responsibility everyone shares in making J&K’s roads safer. (KF)
