Srinagar, Aug 28: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday rejected the nomination forms of 32 candidates of various assembly segments scheduled to go for polls on September 18 during first phase of assembly elections in Jammu & Kashmir.
Those nomination forms have been rejected include the form of Sarjan Ahmad Wagay, also known as Sarjan Barkati, a known cleric from south Kashmir’s Shopian.
Barkati, a notable cleric from Reban, PS-Zainapora, faced disqualification after the returning officer of 36 AC Zainapora completed the scrutiny process, reports said.
According to officials 280 nominations were filed by candidates associated with different political parties and independents as well, out of which 190 nominations have been accepted.
“32 nominations were rejected by election officials during the scrutiny process for the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir,” the officials informed.
