J&K Chief Electoral Officer Issues Directive on Nomination Paper Submission During Holidays

Srinagar, Aug 24: In an official communication dated August 23, 2024, the Chief Electoral Officer of Jammu & Kashmir has issued directives regarding the filing of nomination papers on public holidays.

As per Section 33 of the Representation of People Act, 1951, nomination papers cannot be submitted to the Returning Officer on public holidays recognized under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.

However, Returning Officers are allowed to keep their help desks operational on these holidays to assist prospective candidates with the completion of their nomination papers and other related support.

The directive emphasizes that while help desks may function, no nomination papers will be accepted on these public holidays.
