Kulgam, June 18 (KF): Following the tragic death of a 28-year-old pregnant woman, Nayeema, wife of Shoukat Ahmad Bhat from Srandoo Kulgam, at District Hospital Kulgam, the government has ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident. The order was issued by the Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir, on the same day.

As per official communication, the inquiry committee has been constituted in response to initial reports highlighting the gravity of the situation. The panel is tasked with conducting an in-depth investigation into the circumstances that led to the woman’s untimely death.

The committee comprises senior health officials, including Dr. Khalid Parvaiz (I/C CMO Anantnag) as Chairman, and Dr. Shahid Tak (Consultant Cardiologist, JLNM Hospital Srinagar), Dr. Manzoor A. Rather (Consultant Anesthesia, DH Ganderbal), and Dr. Muzaffar Ali Khan (Consultant Surgeon, District Hospital Budgam) as members.

In addition to reviewing treatment records and the sequence of events, the committee will interact with the hospital staff, gather witness statements—including those from the deceased’s family—and inspect the hospital’s emergency response systems and medical protocols. Any sign of negligence or procedural lapse will be thoroughly examined.

The findings of the investigation are expected to be submitted by June 19, 2025. The move comes after directions from the Hon’ble Cabinet Minister, who stressed the importance of transparency, accountability, and justice in the matter. (KF)
