Srinagar, May 27: The crescent for the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah was not sighted in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday evening, Grand Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam announced.
As a result, Eid-ul-Adha will be celebrated on Saturday, June 7 across the Union Territory.
Speaking to the media, the Grand Mufti said that no reliable moon sighting reports were received from any part of Jammu and Kashmir. Therefore, the first day of Dhul Hijjah will be on Thursday, May 29, and Eid-ul-Adha will be observed on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah, which falls on June 7.
Muslims across the region will now begin preparations for the festival, which commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command.
