Srinagar, Feb 09: Jammu and Kashmir Police have intensified their crackdown on the misuse of SIM cards by terrorists and criminal elements, leading to the arrest of over 30 individuals involved in procuring and distributing SIM cards for unlawful activities, over the past year.
Extensive inspections have been conducted across multiple districts, including Srinagar, Ganderbal, Anantnag, Budgam, Pulwama, Shopian, Bandipora, Samba and Kishtwar to ensure strict compliance with Know Your Customer (KYC) norms by SIM card vendors.
Authorities aim to curb unauthorized issuance and prevent communication networks from being exploited for terrorism and organized crime, police said in a media statement.
The State Investigation Agency (SIA) and district police units are actively investigating cases linked to SIM card misuse.
Officials have warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found facilitating the issuance or transfer of SIM cards for illegal activities.
J&K Police have urged citizens to remain cautious and ensure that SIM cards issued in their names are not misused.
The enforcement drive is part of a broader effort to strengthen security and prevent anti-national elements from exploiting communication networks, the statement added.
